The next generation of cyber defenders

On a typical Saturday in Baskin Engineering, UCSC students are catching up on homework or studying for exams. But on February 7, one room told a very different story. Eight students sat at the helm of a live IT command center, managing a complex network while fending off relentless simulated cyberattacks. For Slug Security, this was just another day on the job.

Certification Program Pilot

We’re excited to announce an incredible opportunity for select Slug Security members who want to learn foundational cyber skills, test their knowledge, and boost their resumes by earning an industry certification. We’re offering a limited number of INE’s eJPT certifications, fully funded by Slug Security, to those who show strong interest in cybersecurity.

Taking Down Big Laundry

This is a more technical continuation of the article we had with TechCrunch on the machines we found security flaws in. Not every day do you pwn the largest commercial network of laundry appliances in the United States! This article is purely educational and to inspire any future security researchers who want to investigate everyday products they use.

Slug Security Debuts 2^nd Place in eCTF 2023

In our first year of participation, Slug Security has secured 2^nd place in MITRE's 2023 Embedded Capture the Flag competition! Our team, representing the University of California, Santa Cruz, consisting of 10 students, was advised by Alvaro A. Cardenas. With what we learned from this year, we are excited to continue our participation in the competition next year.
